today’s walk

Today’s walk

get ready

layer up

even socks!

leave house

up driveway

gravel road

leaves skitter

birds sing

birds chirp

keep moving

one way

then reverse

wind hits

wind bites

nose freezes

cheeks burn

keep moving

words hurry

through head

finish walk

head home

enter house

too hot!

Remove layers

drink water

record thoughts…

Spirit River

Spirit river deep and cold

Never timid, always bold.

You always know just where to go

Ever forward with the flow.

Flowing ‘neath the super moon

To your charms I’m not immune.

Morning sun brings sparkling surface

But that’s not your greatest purpose.

Home to fish and rocks and birds

Hard to capture with just words.

Your fascinating in every season

I love you even when it’s freezin’!

Wintertime Blues

It must be December she thought

For darkness was all that she got.

She’d sure like some sun

And, some outdoorsy fun!

But, sun can’t be found

Nor be bought by the pound.

So inside she sits and dreams-

Of times when sun finally beams.

Golden Glow

A glow surrounds me.

Leaves of yellow and gold suffuse

the world in magical light.

My heart soars with joy  and

beauty fills my eyes. I am content.

Leaves Fall

Leaves fall like tears as trees mourn coming winter;

marked by shorter days and longer colder nights.

Soon their true shape will be exposed ready to endure

winter’s frigid blasts. Limbs raised in supplication,

they dream of spring and pristine new life.  A time

when they are once again adorned in verdancy.

All I Ask

All I ask is that you see me as a human being with a rich full life.

as the wife of a loving, kind and considerate man.

as the mother of a grown son who is kind, smart, and hard-working.

as a grandmother who loves her grands without reservation.

as a friend to people I’ve known since childhood, and others I’ve met along the way.

as a teacher and advocate for kids.

All I ask is that you see me as I am – mostly good, with some flaws – living, dreaming, working, gardening, and reading.

All I ask is that you do your best for me.

*Written before I underwent 18 hours of back surgery that was far more serious than I knew.

Soaring

Soaring among tree tops like a raptor in flight

Noticing everything below.

Is that a rabbit, a squirrel, a cardinal?

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner?

Riding currents – soaring, gliding, no flapping required.

Below a patchwork of earth:  greens, browns, vibrant colors,

Gentle curves, glistening rivers, neat rows of hay,

All mine for the taking.

Mirrors

Mirrors, reflections – echoes for our eyes,

What do I see? I see hair, skin, my physical form,

But, is that who I am? Is that who anyone really is,

only what a mirror shows?

Or, are we so much more?

If indeed, we are only what we see – how embarrassing

That should be!
